My name is Aekta Javia, for those of you who don't know me as well, I am in my third year of college at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. I am double majoring in Psychology and Business, with an interest in Sports Psychology, Business Management, and Marketing.
I have grown up playing various sports from tennis, field hockey, basketball, soccer (football) etc...and have always had a passion for them. Today I continue to play club soccer for ODU, coach soccer and am a goalkeeper coach at a soccer club in the Hampton Roads. I have also grown up trying and learning all different instruments including piano, violin, guitar, etc but my passion in the arts has always been photography and sketching. I went to Norfolk Academy, a school from 1-12th grade that encouraged us to develop as a person as a whole, not just academically, but through the arts, the athletics, community service, and our morals.
We try to get to India as often as we can, and always go to Bhayavadar where our roots are from to visit our family and family friends. The first time I went to Sidsar was in 2008 with Mom, Dad, and Bhai. It was a casual trip to go see the school that was being finished which had just begun it's early stages of classes and education. I don't remember much except for vague areas like the courtyard area, one of the art rooms, the fields, and lunch room, but I'm sure it has changed and developed since what I can remember.
When dad got involved even more this past year with the Shree Vijapura Vidhya Sankul (school) at Sidsar, Brilliant Student program and had been telling me what Bhanji Uncle and Dinesh Uncle and countless others were doing, I knew I wanted to help in some way. I asked if I could come volunteer and see if I could be of any help in any way. I am not exactly sure of what I am going to do there yet, but from what I've been told by Dr. Padhiyar the head of the school is that I will be working with students in grades 6-9 and will be helping with things like their attitude in school about working hard and their limitless abilities and applying them, their self-confidence and value, about perfectionism, and work ethic and what really matters. More than anything I am excited to just be there and see how things are going and to help out in any way I can. I am excited to see the progress in the new Brilliant students program and to see how they are incorporating all different things into their education not just academics. I will keep blogging as much as I can and keep updating on how things are going (bear with me as this is my first time blogging) but I am excited to get to Sidsar!
